Leveda Smith

Leveda Ann Smith, 73, Log ansport, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at her home.

Born Aug. 9, 1947, in Logansport, she was the daughter of David Richard and Betty Lou (Hazlett) Smith. A 1965 graduate of Delphi High School, Leveda went on to study journalism in college. She chose this quote to leave as advice, “Genius without education is like silver in the mine.”

Leveda worked for the Monticello and Logansport newspapers, retiring from the Pharos Tribune after 20 years of reporting, editing and publishing.

Leveda loved her pets. She was also an avid reader. To honor her final wishes, a donation to your public library or local Humane Society would be a lasting way to keep Leveda’s memory alive. She cared deeply about journalism and animal welfare.

She is survived by one brother, Darrell Smith, Monticello; one cousin who was like a sister, Maryanna Smith Selvidge, of Camden; and close friends, Sue and Dirk Bartlow, of Camden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Leveda’s wishes to be cremated, without a funeral service, will be honored.

You may share memories, photos and condolences on her Tribute Wall at www.fisherfuneralchapel.com.
