Helen Allen (Smith)

Helen Louise (Allen) Smith, 89, passed away on March 1, 2021 at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center in Lafayette, Indiana. She has now entered the gates of heaven and dancing with the Angels.
After 14 plus years, Helen has battled Alzheimer’s, which she fought with dignity and pride. Born at home during the Great Depression on October 15, 1931 to Alba and Neva (Duff) Allen, she was their youngest child. She was raised on the family farm in Delphi, Indiana. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1949 and Ball State in 1953. Received her Master’s in Education from Purdue in 1969.
She is reunited with her husband, Leroy A. Smith, whom she married June 7, 1953. He passed away December 2008, after 55 years of marriage to Helen.
Other than her own children, Helen has touched many young lives due to the fact she was a Teacher at Hersey Elementary for 21 years. She kept in touch with many of her students, attending their graduations and weddings. She loved and respected her student, friends and family. She never forgot through the years, She was A TEACHER!!
Helen was very involved with her church family at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, shared many Bible Verses and attended Bible Studies. She was also a member of the Psi Iota Xi-Delta Zeta Chapter and was involved with the Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, her Grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Lee Smith, Jennifer (Jim) Frazier of Lafayette; Loren (Dawn) Smith of Logansport; Neil (Pam) Smith of Brookston. Her Grandchildren: Rhett (Naomi) Edwards, Ryan (Tanya) Edwards, Alicia (Jeff) Sanford, Aaron (Keanna) Smith, Lindsey (Scott) Mullins, Keenan (Sara) Smith, Tyler (Lauren) Frazier and Zane (Andersyn) Smith. Great Grandchildren: Rhese, Charlese, Liamese; Jayton, Kaylei, Layla, McKenna; Brisa, Brice; Hailey, Taylor, Tristan; Nathan, Ryan, Lucas, Reyna, Zayden, Austin Jay; Allison, McKenzie, Xavier, Caitlynn; and Ezra.
Preceded by her parents, husband, sister Ruby Wagoner and brothers; Reed Allen and Robert Allen.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 1-2 pm at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service will be at 2pm at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
