Bertie Wamsher (Smith) - Class Of 1949

Bertie Smith, 86, of Delphi, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at her residence.

She was born in White County, Ind., on Nov. 2, 1931, to the late Mearl “Hap” and Edna (McGill) Wamsher. She attended Delphi Schools. On Jan. 29, 1949, in Lebanon, she married Gerald Smith; he passed away in 1987.

Bertie retired in 1998 from the former Essex Wire in Flora, where she worked as a wire puller. She worked as a score and brake operator at Central Lab in West Lafayette. She also worked as a clerk for Mode-A-Day Dress Shop, I&W Fashion Center, and Wynkoop Holden Pharmacy, all in Delphi.

She was a member of the Delphi Wesleyan Church.

Bertie enjoyed playing cards and watching any and all basketball games.

Surviving are a daughter, Neta Danforth (Doug) of Monticello; a son-in-law, Tom Soper of Delphi; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Soper, and son-in-law, Roger Daniels.

A graveside service will be held at the IOOF Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, with Pastor Dan Fisher officiating.
