Jesse Widner - Class Of 1935

Jesse Widner, 82, of Delphi, died at 5:45 a.m. Dec. 6, 1998, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He had been a patient there since Dec. 4 and in ill health for the last two years. Born Nov. 10, 1916, in Delphi, he was the son of William and Nettie Thompson Widner. He attended Delphi High School. His first marriage was to Juanita Looker, and she preceded him in death in 1971. His second marriage was on Aug. 31, 1973, in Yeoman, to Bonita Jervis Wilson, who survives. Mr. Widner retired from Globe Valve Corp., Delphi, in 1979, after 35 years of employment. He also had worked for Ross Gear and the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of Radnor United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge (IOOF) in Delphi. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Also surviving are one son, Richard “Dick” Widner of Lafayette; two daughters, Kathleen Widner of Ashville, N.C., and Julia Terrell of Monticello; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, four brothers, and six sisters. Services were Wednesday at Abbott Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery, rural Flora.
