Hiriam Kerlin - Class Of 1917

Hiram G. “Hi” Kerlin, 88, of Lafayette, died suddenly at 4:27 a.m. Nov. 27, 1986 in the emergency room at Home Hospital. He was the son of Cloyd and Georgia Gregg of Kerlin, and was born May 25, 1898 in Delphi. Kerlin, worked at the C.M. Kerlin Elevator in Delphi before moving to Fort Wayne where he owned and operated a Standard Oil Station and worked at Allisons. Later, he owned and operated Crane Station Elevator, south of Lafayette. He was a 1917 graduate of Delphi High School and graduated from Purdue University in 1921. He attended Culver Military Academy where he was a member of the Black Horse troop. He was an Army veteran of both WW I and II. He was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Delphi and a life member of American Legion Post 75 in Delphi and Mt. Olive Masonic Lodge, Delphi. Other memberships were, Scottish Rite - Ft. Wayne Valley, Murat Shrine, and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Surviving are three daughters; Fay Mild, Metuchen, New Jersey; Carole Baker, Dayton and Debra Skinner, Cicero; a son, Homer Kerlin, Ft. Myers, Fla. Also three brothers; Mahlon Kerlin, Pittsburg; Charles Kerlin, Delphi and William Kerlin, West Lafayette, and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by one sister. Services were Sunday at Horn Funeral Home, Delphi. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery.
