Steve Carroll

Steven E. Carroll, 81, of Lafayette, passed away Wednesday-August 17, 2022, at 4:43am, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He had been in failing health the past few years. He was born July 9, 1941, in Indianapolis, to the late Ellis & Mary Evelyn Ellis Carroll. His marriage was to Linda L. Romine in Fort Wayne, on August 9, 1964, and she survives. He was a 1959 graduate of Warren Central High School, Indianapolis. He received his BS in Education from Indiana University in 1966, and his MA in Education from IU in 1978.  Due to a high number of students at the old Middle School, Steve taught sixth grade for 2 years in the basement of the old Methodist Church. From that point on Steve became a principal, first at Camden Elementary, then at the former Hillcrest Elementary, now DCES. His entire career of 35 years was with the Delphi Community School Corporation. He retired in 1999. He and Linda have lived in Lafayette for the past 6 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving for 3 years, stationed in Panama & Washington, D.C., as an MP. He was a longtime member of the Delphi United Methodist Church, attended the Wesley Wed Sunday School Class, and was president of the building committee for the new Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Indiana Principals Association, IN Retired Teachers Association, Delphi Lions Club, and he received the Making A Difference Award in teaching, and the Samuel Milroy Award from the club. He was a member of the Camden American Legion Post 413, and a member of the former Delphi Jaycee's. Steve enjoyed golfing with his buddies, was an avid IU sports fan, and loved the yearly family vacation to Mrytle Beach, with several Delphi families and close friends. Steve's greatest joy in life was his family. He loved them so much and enjoyed all of the time they would spend together. Surviving: wife-Linda L. Carroll of Lafayette, daughter-Lori & Jay Schlaifer of Westfield, son-Doug & Shannon Carroll of Delphi, son-David & Shelly Carroll of Avon, brother-James & Donette Carroll of Bluffton, SC, brother-Tom Carroll of Orlando, FL, grandchildren: Lindsay & Oscar Perez, Erika Carroll & Blaine Walters, Blaine Carroll, Blake Carroll, & Brianne Carroll; 2 great grandchildren: Emma Kemp & Sawyer Gaeta.

Services: The family will receive friends, at the Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N. US 421, Delphi, IN 46923, from 11am until his celebration of life service at 1pm there, on Saturday-September 10, 2022. Rev. Todd Ladd officiating. Private family burial will take place at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Carroll County Honor Gurad will provide Military Rite's.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Camden Early Childhood Center or Delphi Community Elementary School Library.
