Charles Haines

Charles "Charlie" Michael Haines, 69, of Delphi, passed away at his home Sunday-December 4, 2022, at 5:25am, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 31, 1953, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on the former Ramey Airforce Base, to the late Carl Haines, and Beverly J. Hanaway Hamelman. His marriage was to Cathy L. Treece in Delphi, on April 5, 1975, and she survives. He was a 1971 graduate of Delphi High School. He worked for 20 years at the former Alloy Crafts & Lox cryogenic tank manufacturing (now Alloy Custom Products) as a welder and foreman. Charlie was skilled in many different welding types, and held numerous certificates for them, and even worked on components for one of the space shuttles. He also worked at Alcoa (now Arconic) for 10 years, retiring from there in 2010. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Delphi, where he was a deacon. He and his wife attended the Battle Ground Bible Church, where they were involved with Sunday school. Charlie was very active with Delphi Little League and was on the board of directors when they joined the Town & Country Baseball League. He also was active with Delphi girls' softball and was a mentor to several young people during those times he helped coach and support those sports. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, was a Jack of all trades, incredibly skilled with his hands, even building the home they live in.  Never letting his health deter him, Charlie was a donor recipient, and was very supportive and appreciative of the donation process that allowed him to receive his needed surgeries. Charlie was a true family man. He loved his family so much and especially the vacations they would take together. His family was his life, and he enjoyed every minute they could be together for any occasion. A true man of faith, he loved the Lord and trusted in his plan for him and his family. Haines both of Delphi, granddaughters-Kylie & Leah Haines, brother-Doug & Carmen Haines of Ventura, CA, brother-Steve & Yvonne Haines of Delphi, sister-Beverly & Tony Kemp of Francesville, stepmother-Jumpie Haines of Cape Coral, FL, stepsister-Sue Vollman of Marysville, TN. Preceded in death by a brother Joe. Services: Visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Funeral service there Friday at 11am, Pastor Mark Perdue & Pastor Paul Whitaker officiating. Burial at IOOF Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wheeler Mission or the Lafayette Urban Ministry, envelopes available at the funeral home.
