Gertrude Ileene (Johns) Doyle, age 90, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was born on February 14, 1933. Gertrude graduated from Delphi High School in 1951. After high school she enrolled in the Methodist School of Nursing, where she obtained her RN license in 1954. Gertrude earned her Bachelor of Science from Indiana University’s School of Nursing in 1970 and in 1977 obtained her Master of Science in Education from Indiana University.

She spent her entire nursing career at Methodist Hospital, where she cared for patients for 45 years. Gertrude enjoyed spending time gardening and working in the yard. She was a member of Scientech and St. Michael Catholic Church. Most of all, she loved helping others.

Gertrude is survived by her son, Ed Doyle; and grandchildren, Nathaniel and Matthew Doyle. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo F. Doyle; son, Phillip Doyle; and siblings, Belle, Pete, Earl, Arthur, Ralph, Keith, Tootie, Buddy and Nelly.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140 with a nurse’s honor service beginning at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, in Indianapolis, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Father Nick Dant will be officiating. Entombment will follow the service.
