Margaret Harner (Best)

Margaret L. Best, 88, Delphi, IN passed away _October 6, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Campus, Delphi, IN.  She was born on September 2, 1934, in Delphi, IN, the daughter of Sherman Harner & Elsie Wandrei Harner. She attended the former Pittsburg church of the Brethren where she was baptized in 1947 and later attended the new combined Living Faith church of the Brethren. Margaret graduated from Delphi High School in 1952. She was married to John L. Best on April 16,1953. She was a very hard worker all of her life. She started babysitting at 8, was managing a restaurant at 13, and worked as a janitor at the school to the wee hours of the night while in H.S. After marrying she went to work at Peters Revington for 2 years and later went to work for Globe Valve where she worked for 32+ years.   She was also a distributer for Stanley Products & Fuller Brush for years. She was a volunteer with a big heart. After retiring she worked 9+ years at the Hillcrest  Elementary School in the lunchroom. She delivered Meals on Wheels for years, worked at the Food Pantry and the Thrift Store.  She was in charge of Bingo once a month at Carol Manor and she worked the church food tent at the County Fair each year. She was very involved with her church and the Women's Work. We called her the Energizer Bunny. Her family was the biggest love of her life, and she is survived by her children:  Bob (Debra)Best of Mercedes, TX, Billy Best, Lafayette, IN, Kim (Mike) Leahy, Delphi, IN; her grandchildren: Brandon Best, Bryan Best, Brock Best, Christina Best, Abi Leahy, Eric Leahy, Angela Shopper, J.T. Dalrymple. She has 10 great grandchildren.  She also is survived by her sister Alma Austin of Lafayette, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Glenn, Wilbur, Bill, and Willard.  Services: Visitation will be Wednesday from 11am until her funeral service at 1pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Guy Studebaker officiating. Burial at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions may be made to the Living Faith Church of the Brethren, envelopes available at the funeral home.
