Cattle being her favorite.  Never was there a time that Shirley was not actively involved in the success of the farm.
After the passing of her late husband in 2009, Shirley worked beside her youngest son, Rick, farming as his right hand “man”. Aside from farming, Shirley was also very active in the Psi Iota Xi sorority, Chi Chapter of Brookston.  Shirley volunteered time at the fair booth and served meals to Purdue groups during the summer. She was the family matriarch that kept the family together.  She was the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She watched them grow, perform, made special homemade ice cream, attended their ball games which she loved to watch and cheer them on. Shirley was a devoted Purdue fan. She was a long-time supporter of the basketball and football programs and tailgated with friends and families.  They entertained Coach Keady and Painter’s teams for years with their annual Hog Roast.  It was always a great hit with family and friends.  Shirley continued to follow the Boilermakers through the years by attending banquets, games, award ceremonies and traveling with the team.  She made it a point to attend games and watch the boilers on tv while living at White Oak Health Campus. Shirley attended the Federated Church of Brookston. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Elara Caring and White Oak Health Campus for all the care, support and love they showed during Shirley’s stay for the past 4 ½ years.
