Marthabelle Johns (Mennen)

Martha “Betty” Johns White-Mennen, 73, of Rt. 1, Walton, died unexpectedly at 8:50 p.m. March 9, 1997, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born Sept. 22, 1923, in Yeoman, she graduated from Delphi High School in 1941 and lived in the Lafayette area most of her life. Her marriage was in 1942 in Peru to Raymond ‘Tim” White, who died Feb. 4, 1983. She married Burton Mennen in June 1985 in Lafayette. He died in April 1991. A homemaker, Mrs. White-Mennen formerly attended Grace United Methodist Church and was attending Union Presbyterian Church in Walton. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lafayette, Moose Lodge Auxiliary in Monticello, and the Elks, Eagles, and Rose Society, all in Logansport. She bowled with the Senior Citizens and enjoyed dancing, bingo, and playing cards. She traveled extensively. Surviving are two daughters, Ellen Hess of West Lafayette and Marsha Sumner of Versailles, Ky.; a sister, Louise Dimmitt of Monticello; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Services and burial were March 12 in Lafayette.
