James "Pat" O'Farrell, 74, of rural Delphi, died at 9:28 a.m. on Feb. 9, 2006, at Twin Lakes Village in Monticello, where he had been a resident since Jan. 6.
  Born in Carroll County on March 10, 1931, he was the son of Thomas and Clauda Medley O'Farrell.  He was a 1949 graduate of Delphi High School and played on the track and basketball teams.  He received an associate's degree in agriculture from Purdue University.
  His marriage was to Sharon Hanna on July 26, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi.
  Mr. O'Farrell was a self-employed farmer in Carroll County all of his life.
  He was a Sgt. 1st Class in the U.S. Army, serving from 1953 to 1955 in the Korean conflict.  He received the Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant for meritorious service.
  Mr. O'Farrell was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Delphi American Legion and VFW, where he participated in the honor guard.
  He coached Yeoman Elementary basketball teams, in 1951, he was a member of the National Guard Basketball Team.  He played on the Delphi AAU Basketball Team and participated in the state and national championship games.  He was on the state FFA Livestock Judging Team.
  Mr. O'Farrell was recruited as a pitcher to play for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Organization.
  He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and loved hunting and nature.
  Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kathy Strasser (husband: Tim) of Camden and Tara Shanks (husband: Dan) of Camden; two sons, Kyle O'Farrell (wife:Tonya) and Kevin O'Farrell (wife: Kathi) both of Delphi; two sisters, Zelda Burke of Monticello, and Deloris Hildebrandt (husband: Joe) of Delphi, two brothers, Paul O'Farrell (wife: Carol) of Delphi and Charles O'Farrell (wife: Martha) of Lafayette; and eight grandchildren, David, Sara, Hannah, Nolan, Nathan, Adam, Katie and Ryan.
 He was preceded in death by his parents.
 Services were Monday, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Delphi.  Davidson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Carroll County Cancer Association, or Indiana University Medical Center Cancer Research.
