William Dickinson

  William Jacob Dickinson, 74, of Rt. 1, Cutler, died at 9:20 a.m. July 13, 1993, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, where he had been a patient since June 23.
  Born July 27, 1918, in Madison Township, he was the son of Lester and Irene Bougher Dickinson.  His marriage was on Feb. 17, 1938, at Lebanon to Barbara Rodenbarger.
  As a youth, he was active in 4-H and showed grand champion Angus steers at the Indiana State Fair in 1933 and 1935.
  He was a 1936 graduate of Delphi High School where he was a male cheerleader for two years.
  While attending Purdue University from 1936-1937 he was engaged in farming with his father.
  Dickinson was on the Advisory Board for Madison Township schools, was past president of the Carroll County National Farmers Organization, and was a Carroll County REMC director for nine years.  He was active in the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee, serving as vice president and treasurer.  He was a precinct committeeman for Democrat Township for several years.
  He served as a Carroll County Commissioner from 1979-1980.
  Dickinson farmed and raised hogs in Madison Township for 31 years, retiring in 1969.  He then took a job selling real estate in Lafayette and later sold insurance locally and in Indianapolis.
  After retiring, he managed the Rodenbarger family farm and helped his wife with her flower shops in Delphi and Flora.  He read REMC meters from 1984 to 1990.
  Dickinson was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Delphi, a member of Carroll County Farm Bureau, the Ockley Conservation Club, and was a former 4-H leader in Madison Township.  He was also a Red Cross Blood donor for many years.
  Surviving with his wife are one son, Ron Dickinson of Palmetto, Fla.; two daughters, La Dora Hamilton of Cutler and Belinda Weatherwax of Delphi; one brother, James Dickinson of Mooresville; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  A brother preceded him in death.
  Services will be a 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Horn Funeral Home, Delphi, with the Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating.  Burial will be in Ball Hill Cemetery near Cutler.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
  Memorials may be made to the Respiratory Department at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
