William Martin - Class Of 1943

William J. Martin, 92, of rural Camden, died Thursday-Dec 21, 2017 at 8:47am at his daughter Carolyn's home, after a brief illness. He was born Oct 27, 1925 in Carroll County, IN, to the late Charles Gardner & Ora Jordan Martin. His marriage was to Peggy J. Dunderman at the Wheatland Ave United Methodist Church in Logansport, on Aug 31, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Aug 2, 2012. He was a 1943 graduate of Delphi High School. He was in the U.S. Army at the end of WW II, stationed in the Pacific Theater, then switched to the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed their.  He farmed in Liberty Township, Carroll County, for many years, raising hogs & cattle, and grain.  He was a member of the Burrows Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder.  He was a member of the Camden American Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling and camping, and for many years wintered in Sebring, FL.  He dearly loved his family, and the many gatherings they shared together. Surviving: daughters-Conny & Jerry Amstutz of Leo, Carolyn & Robin Maxwell of rural Camden; sons-William "Mike" & Sonya Martin of Abbeville, SC, Richard Martin of Burrows, Christopher & April Martin of rural Camden; brother-Charles "Max" & Catherine Martin of Burrows; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. Services: Friends may call Saturday at the Burrows Presbyterian Church from 1pm until his funeral service at 3pm, Rev Carolyn DeWitt, & Rev's John & Sally Gilbert officiating. Burial at Woodville Cemetery, rural Camden, Carroll County Honor Guard providing Military Rites. Memorial contributions to the Burrows Presbyterian Church, envelopes available there.
