David Hammell - Class Of 1979

George David Hammel, 17, of Delphi, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 1979, of a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the chest. His body was found in a Delphi apartment according to Carroll County police. Born April 6, 1961, he was the son of George F. and Dixie Sheets Hammel. An employee of Yeager and Sullivan, Camden, he attended Clinton Prairie and Delphi Community schools. Surviving with the parents of Rt. 5, Monticello, are two sisters, Teresa K. Burke of Rt. 2, Monticello, and Dinah Brown of Moran; one brother, Tony Hammel of Rt. 5, Monticello; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester D. Hammel of Mulberry; and the maternal grandmother, Evelyn Sheets of Rossville. Services were Wednesday at Mulberry with the Rev. Ross Terry officiating. Burial was in Fair Haven Cemetery.
