Boby Simmons - Class Of 1944

Boby D. "Bob" Simmons, 64, of near Romney, died at 10:55 a.m. Dec. 19, 1990, in St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had been hospitalized since Sept. 26 and had been ill for 18 months. Born Sept. 18,1926, in Sleeth, he was the son of Parker and Ruth Foust Simmons. He was a 1944 graduate of Delphi High School and lived in Delphi until 1967. He then lived in West Point until moving to the Romney area in 1974. His marriage was on March 10, 1946 in Pittsburg to Donna Draper, who survives. He was a building engineer at McCutcheon High School for IO years, retiring in 1984. From 1950 to 1967, he worked on the Lee Flora Farms, south of Delphi. He was one of the organizers of the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds Flea Market. He and his wife participated in flea markets throughout the Midwest. He was known as "Handleman." He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving with his wife, Donna, are one son, Richard D. Simmons, stationed with the Navy at San Diego, Calif.; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services were Saturday at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Peggy Arter officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery, Rt. 2, Flora. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association.
