MARIA "MARY" L. HAMMEL, 59

Mary Hammel of Delphi passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 7:01 a.m. at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette. Mary was born on March 1, 1953 in Lafayette to the late Adolph and Frances (Lyseko) Oesterlein. She was a graduate of Delphi High School. She married Jack L. Hammel on Nov. 23, 1976 in Delphi and he survives. Mary was a homemaker and an artist. She loved flower gardening, feeding and watching her hummingbirds and enjoyed nature.

Along with her husband, Jack, she is survived by a daughter Kimberly Daly Hitze (husband Neil) of Lafayette, and son; Christopher Daly of Delphi; 3 stepchildren, Elaina Jacot and John Hammel of Delphi, Michael Hammel of Indiana, sisters; Erika Engli of Tucson, AZ and Veronika Ponce (husband Marcos) of North Manchester and a niece; Laura Engli Olsen (husband Rob) of Chandler, AZ. She was preceded by her parents and brother-in-law, Frank Engli.

A private family graveside service will be held at Masonic Cemetery on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Donald Eder officiating. Family and friends will gather from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the home of Mike and Marie Clawson at 222 W. Franklin St., Delphi to celebrate her life.
