Roberta Popejoy (Mattio)

Roberta Alice Popejoy Mattio, 71, of Savannah Lakes Village, wife of the late Dennis A. Mattio, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Muskegon, MI to the late Robert Z. and Martha Goff Popejoy of Delphi, Indiana.

Berta, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Delphi, IN schools and later attended Ball State University. She retired from Social Security Administration after 30 years of service as an account manager. An active member of the Women’s Golf Association in Savannah Lakes Village, Berta spent many happy hours on the golf course. When not on the golf course, you could find her planting flowers in her yard. During the Christmas holiday, she would spend hours in her kitchen baking dozens of cookies for neighbors and family. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Berta was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Schock and two grandsons, Jeremiah and Zachery of Delphi, Indiana.

She is survived by her brother, Tom Popejoy (Deb) and their children, Mark Popejoy (Tara) and Laura Sewell (Mike); a grandson, Andrew Smith; and her sister-in-law, JoEllen Wolsko (John) and their children, Kevin and Emily Wolsko.

Sue Ellen Beale (Irwin) (1966)

I don't have very many childhood memories without Berta in them.  I met her in Sunday school at 3 or 4 years old.  My heart will miss her dearly.  Sue Ellen Beale Irwin
