Lt. Gilbert F. Fincher, 21, of the army ferry command, lost his life in an aircraft explosion on October 3, 1943, in the Asiatic war area and was buried in China his mother. Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, was notifed. Lt. Fincher was born in Carroll county, graduated from the Delphi High School in 1941. He enlisted in the air corps in May, 1941, was sent first to China, then India. Specializing in radio, he received his commission on Oct. 9, 1942, and sent overseas as a pilot in 1 November, 1942.
