Virginia Pletcher (Delany Brookbank) - Class Of 1938

Virginia E. Brookbank, 72, of Delphi, died unexpectedly on Feb. 6, 1993, at her residence.
  Born Aug. 26, 1920, in Delphi, she was the daughter of Lawrence M. and Golda Ruth Thrasher Pletcher.
  She was married Feb. 14, 1946, in Delphi to John E. Delaney, who died Dec. 3, 1954.  She then married Robert L. Brookbank on Jan. 16, 1959, in Delphi, and he survives.
  She was a 1938 graduate of Delphi High School and a 1942 graduate of Butler University.
  She taught first grade at Delphi from 1942-1945, and then from 1945-1947 taught at Linnwood Elementary School in Lafayette.  In 1955 she opened Memory Lane Kindergarten at her home in Delphi.  She closed it in 1968 to teach kindergarten at Hillcrest Elementary, where she retired in 1980.
  A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delphi, she was the current church organist and was a former deacon.  She was active in the church music program for 61 years.
  She also was a member of Junto Club, Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma honorary sorority for women educators, Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Butler University, Carroll County Historical Society, and Wabash and Erie Canal Association.
  Also surviving are three sons, Ned A. Delaney of Lafayette, Phillip L. Brookbank of Monticello, and David M. Brookbank of Nineveh; and four grandchildren.
  Services were Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ellis Gasser officiating.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
