Robert Allen - Class Of 1946

Robert L. "Bob" Allen, 84, of rural Delphi, died Monday, Sept. 3, at 7:20 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been in failing health and a resident there since July 2011.

He was born Nov. 27, 1927 in Carroll County, to the late Alba and Neva Duff Allen. His marriage was to Shirley M. Roller, in Cass County, on Aug. 5, 1962, and she survives.

He was a 1946 graduate of Delphi High School, and served in the IN National Guard. He farmed in Carroll County, and drove a school bus for the Delphi Community School Corporation for 24 years, and also drove a van for the Flora Senior Citizens for many years. He was a member and a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, Delphi, and a longtime member of the IOOF Lodge 28 in Delphi. He was an avid fan and lifelong supporter of the Delphi High School boys basketball and baseball programs.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley M. Allen, of Delphi, his daughter, Lisa Warren (husband: Mike), of Shipshewana, his son, Mike Allen (wife: Laura), of Lafayette, his sister, Helen Smith, of Lafayette, and his five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Reed, and a sister, Ruby.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Service will be at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m., Thursday. The Rev. Bill McLean will be officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, envelopes available at the funeral home.
