Dorothy Newell (Mills)

Dorothy M. Mills, 94, of Delphi, passed away at 5:12 pm, Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 23, 1929 in Lafayette to the late Earl B. and Maude (Powell) Newell. On November 23, 1950 she married Robert D. Mills in West Lafayette. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2017.

Dorothy was a 1948 graduate of Delphi High School and a 1952 graduate of Purdue University. She cherished her family, who lovingly referred to her as General Mills, and loved being a homemaker. She and her late husband, Bob farmed along beside one another for over 40 years retiring in 1993. Dorothy gave piano lessons to many for 30 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. Dorothy was a member of the Psi Iota XI, Delphi Chapter, Junto club, a Social Club in Delphi. Dorothy loved and embraced everyone and mothered many. Dorothy had a servants heart, shown by her actions by creating a homemakers club for welfare mothers, teaching GED classes, serving on a board to promote adult literacy at the Delphi Library, serving as president of the Carroll County Extension Club, starting a cancer support group in Carroll County, serving as a volunteer/coordinator for Reach to Recovery for 10 years, and supporting Purdue students in advanced farm management with tours of Bob and Dorothy's family farm for sixteen years.

She is survived by two daughters, Marsha (Ed) Oilar of Monticello and Lois (John) Anderson of Columbus; son, Mark (Michelle) Mills of Delphi and bonus daughter, Clara (David) Molden of Indianapolis; son-in-law, Tom Barker of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Nathan) Whybrew, John (Melissa) Barker, Joe (Becca Walker) Oilar, Jeff Oilar, Hannah (Brian) Newlin, Sam Anderson (Kara Gilman), Lauren (Joe) Wright, Blaine (Janelle) Mills, Evan (Lauren) Mills; and twenty great grandchildren, Tucker, Tessa, Trey, Tate, Luke, Levi, Ava, Austin, Alivia, Ariana, Harvey, Kelby, Holden, Mae, Tanner, Nora, Lillian, Adeline, Evelyn.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bob, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Barker, brother, Kenneth Newell; sister, June Million Haase; son-in-law John Anderson; bonus son-in-law, David Molden.

Memorial visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, January 12, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. Deacons prayer circle will be at 2:45 pm at the church on Friday.

Memorial services celebrating Dorothy's life will be at 11:00 am Saturday at the church with her grandson-in-law, Rev. Nathan Whybrew and Rev. Steve Quinlan co-celebrating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello or Camp Tecumseh. Envelopes will be available at the church.
