Charles Wayne Yates, 91, of Camden, died Tuesday-October 26, 2021 at 2:07am, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He had been in failing health and a patient there for 8 days. He was born October 1, 1930 in Carroll County, to the late Lee & Eva Delong Yates. His marriage was to Claurise Juanita Clayton in Paragon, IN, on July 13, 1974, and she survives. Wayne graduated from Delphi High School in 1948. Wayne owned and operated Yates Painting, as a self employed painter, doing residential, agricultural, and commercial painting for over 30 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he and his wife traveled the U.S., selling antiques at shows and mall's for many years. They enjoyed the traveling, meeting many new friends and acquaintances, and just had fun doing it. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Camden. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, and hunting with his son. Always time for his grandchildren, he would take them on in a game of basketball and tennis. Holding his own to their much surprise, but making a long-lasting memory they still talk about at family gathering's. He enjoyed all sports, especially college basketball and football. An avid IU sports fan, always rooting for the Hoosier's. He was a craftsman, and enjoyed restoring and refinishing antique's. He loved to play euchre and other card games at the many family gathering's he and his wife would host at their home. Wayne never met a stranger, and you always felt better after talking with him. He dearly loved his family and being with them for any reason. Surviving: wife-Juanita Yates of Camden; daughter-Nancy Hartman Hohn of Campbellsville, KY; son-Brad Yates of Lafayette; stepdaughter-Sue & Garry Kern of Lebanon; stepson-Russell & Regina Padgett of Kokomo; sister in law-Delorise A. Yates of Delphi; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a daughter Marla J. Yates; 4 brother's & 3 sister's; a stepdaughter Jane Padgett. Services: A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm Saturday at Camden Cemetery, Camden. Pastor Jerry Long officiating. Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, is assisting the family with arrangements.
