John Bowman - Class Of 1940

 John I. Bowman, 75, of Delphi, died at 4 a.m. Nov. 5, 1995, in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette.  He had been hospitalized two days and was a patient at the Indiana Veterans Home for two years.
  Born June 6, 1920, in Cass County, he was the son of Earl E. and Mable Dodds Bowman.  His marriage was on Aug. 8, 1947, in Yeoman, to Opal F. Smith, who survives.
  He graduated from Delphi High School in 1940 and from Purdue University's drafting short course.
  He was an electric lineman with Public Service Indiana from 1950 until 1955.  He was a electric lineman and line foreman with Carroll County REMC from 1955 until retiring in 1982 due to a disability.
  Mr. Bowman served as Delphi city councilman from 1960 until 1964.
  He was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church and Delphi Lions Club, where he had served as president and secretary.  He was a 50-year member of Delphi American Legion, Post 75 and a former member of Mount Olive Masonic Lodge 48 in Delphi.
  He served in the Navy during World War II on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific.
  Also surviving are one son, John David "J.D." Bowman of Crown Point; a sister, Doris Jean Goslee of Delphi; and three grandchildren.
  Services were today at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Ashley officiating.  Burial was in Yeoman Cemetery, with American Legion rites.
  Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Foundation.
