Mary Imler (Coopman) - Class Of 1918

Mrs. Mary Imler Coopman, 85, died at 5 p.m. Friday. October 4, 1985, in her home at Pittsburg, Indiana, following a lengthy illness. Born September 10, 1900, in Carroll County, she was a 1918 graduate of Delphi High School, and she attended Madam Blakers College in Indianapolis. On April 21, 1925, she married William E. Bill Coopman in Lafayette. Mr. Coopman is a retired carpenter. Mrs. Coopman began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Carroll County school. She taught school 35 years, 31 of those years at Pittsburg Elementary. Following her retirement in 1953 she taught handicapped children at the Carroll County Courthouse for one year. Mrs. Coopman was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association, a former member of Tippecanoe Township Extension Homemakers Club. Surviving with the husband are 41 nieces and nephews. Four brothers and 3 sisters preceded her death. Services were held at the Horn Funeral Home in Delphi on Monday, October 7, 1985, with the Dr. Ellwood Smith officiating. Interment was in Masonic cemetery Delphi.
