Burr Balser - Class Of 1908

Burr Balser, 59, former Delphi postmaster and a veteran of the first World War, died at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at his home east of here following a stroke of apoplexy suffered earlier in the morning. He was born January 3, 1888 at Radnor, son of Frank and Emma Schnepp Balser. He served as postmaster from March, 1931, to February, 1836. A Republican, he served as secretary of the County Central committee two years. He also served as a member of the local school board for a number of years until his recent resignation. Mr. Balser was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Methodist church, and the local American Legion post. Survivors are the widow, the former Blanche Allen Balser, a son, Richard, who teaches at Summittville; a brother, Dean, of south of Delphi; and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Airhart, Muncie, and Mrs. Mabel Schilling, Lafayette. Funeral services were held at the Patrick Mortuary Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Merlin Schwein officiated and the American Legion post was in charge of military rites at the Masonic cemetery.
