Mindwell Crampton (Wilson) - Class Of 1899

  Mindwell Josephine Crampton Wilson, 96, died Tuesday, June 26, 1979, at 5 a.m. at the Golden Age Nursing Home at Marion where she had been a resident since 1972.
  Born in Delphi, November 17, 1862, she was the daughter of Col. and Mrs. A.B. Crampton.  On September 5, 1906, she married Henry B. Wilson in Delphi, who died May 19, 1966.  She was a 1899 graduate of Delphi High School.
  Mrs. Wilson and her husband lived in Ontario, Canada, after their marriage until 1909 when they returned to Delphi where her husband became a partner with her father in the Delphi Citizen-Times (later Delphi Citizen).  Mr. and Mrs. Wilson became sole owners of the newspaper selling it in 1927.  She wrote several columns for the newspaper, among them "At The Mail Box" which she continued for The Delphi Citizen for several years.
  She served as State Regent of the Indiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution and president of The Women's Press Club of Indiana.  She edited the state magazine for the American Association of University Women and for several years was secretary of her 1903 Purdue University graduating class.  She was a correspondent for the Indianapolis News with a regular weekly D.A.R. feature and Delphi news for 25 years.
  Mrs. Wilson was a charter member of Tri Kappa Sorority in Delphi, Charles Carroll Chapter D.A.R. and the Make Merry Class of the Delphi Methodist Church.  She was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church and in college of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
  Mr. and Mrs. Wilson hosted for dinner Woodrow Wilson in their home when he was president of the United States.
  The only living survivor is a great-niece, Willanna Horein of Kalamazoo, Mich.  Two girls, Mrs. Earl M. Sweet, Marion, and Mrs. John David Carmichael of Florida were raised in the Wilson home and considered a part of the family.
  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Delphi, with Rev. Donald Ashley officiating.  Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday.  Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.
