Nancy Knight (Thomas) - Class Of 1883

Mrs. Nancy C. "Nannie" Thomas, 69, died at the home of her son Raymond Thomas in Franklin Saturday after a short illness. She had been here just last week for the funeral of her uncle, Thomas Clyne and was one of the two heirs. Mrs. Thomas was born in Ohio the daughter of Johnson C. and Mary Clyne Knight. She moved to Delphi in early childhood, and graduated from the local high school, she taught in the Deer Creek township schools. While teaching there she married Frank E. Thomas and they lived in the Zion neighborhood for a short time. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1890. Soon after she attended Indiana State Normal school and returned to Delphi with her mother and sister to teach in the Delphi schools. Later she was supervisor of music in the grades of the Muncie schools and then moved to Chicago where she again was an instructor in that subject. Following a major operation two years ago, she retired from her work. After returning to Franklin with her son, she became ill and Saturday was found dead by her daughter-in-law. She leaves one son, Raymond Thomas, and one grandson, Edward of Franklin. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Blythe funeral home. Rev. Harry Parker was in charge. Burial was held In the Masonic cemetery.
