Morris Benefiel - Class Of 1940

Morris L. “ N u b ” Benefiel, 81, of Rockfield, died at 3 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2003, at his residence. Born in Rockfield on Jan. 4, 1922, he was the son of Earl “Buck” and Iva Mae Weidner Benefiel, and attended Delphi schools. He married Juanita M. Ward in Delphi on May ll, 1946, and she died June 30, 1996. He married Helen McKamey Been in Rockfield on Oct. 24, 1997, and she survives. Mr. Benefiel was a staff sergeant in the Army Signal Corps, attached to the Air Force, during World War II. He was retired after 30 years as a saw operator in the extrusion department at Alcoa. Mr. Benefiel was a member of Delphi American Legion, serving as past commander, and serving on the board of directors and on the firing squad. He was a member of Logansport VFW Post 3790, Alcoa Retirees Club and Alcoa 25-Year Club. Mr. Benefiel was a member of Rockfield Christian Church and enjoyed woodworking. Also surviving are two sons, Richard “Butch” Benefiel of Delphi and Gene Benefiel of Fredonia, Kan.; stepchildren, Steve Been of Atlanta, Ga., and Katherine Waldrep and Nancy Sweat, both of Burrows; four grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. A brother, a sister and an infant son are deceased. Services are today (Wednesday) at 1:30 p.m. at Davidson ’Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Cree officiating. Burial, with military rites by Delphi American Legion, will be at Rossville Cemetery.
