Michael Dubes - Class Of 1973

Michael Wayne Dubes, 68, of Camden, Indiana, passed peacefully, April 5th, 2024, at 3:42 am at IU Arnett Hospital, with his children by his side.  He was a beloved son, brother, father and a good friend to all who had the pleasure to have met him. Born June 7, 1955, the fifth of seven children to John & Grace (Bradford) Dubes.  Mike was raised in the Delphi area and attended the Pittsburgh and Delphi school systems, then attending Southwestern High School for one year.  Working as a carpenter for many years, Mike finished out his career and retired from Purdue University in 2020. Mike loved the outdoors and over the years enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, riding his motorcycle, horseback riding (as a child he always wanted to be a cowboy, “except cowboys don’t wear glasses!) and spending time on the river.  His yearly garden was immaculately maintained and always excessive in quantity, giving almost all of it away!  We can’t forget to mention his soaps that he watched daily, The Young & The Restless and The Bold & The Beautiful, just like his Mommy.  Packing a cooler of beer and going to his grandkids sporting events was another activity he enjoyed in his later years. After retirement, he started his day by taking Jack, his trusty four-legged companion, on a drive into town so he could get coffee and Jack could get his treat from the ladies at the Flora gas station.  After that you could often find him in the garage hanging out drinking a cold one, or in his spot at the dining room table, shooting the $%@!, with whoever stopped by.  Whenever there was a good football or basketball game on you could usually find him at Deb and Carol Sue’s house watching the game and some of their shows after.  Mike had a kind soul and a smart mouth, his dry sense of humor followed by his smirk, was there until the end.  He was a simple man, but a pretty boy. He wore his bibbies well, but he also liked to “purdy up” as he would say, and be a sharp dressed man. Surviving are his children, Gabriel (Steve Fields) Woods, Amber (Rodney) Dilling and Michael “Mikie” (Ali Bieghler) Dubes; grandchildren, Neely Plaspohl,  Katie Mathies, Ty Dubes and Ruby Dubes; sisters, Debra (Carol Sue Wortman) Dubes, Marsha (Dubes) Hickman and Linda (Dubes) Isley; sister-in-law Cheryl Dubes. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace (Bradford) Dubes; brothers, John Dubes, William “Bill” Dubes, Jerry Dubes; granddaughter, Gracie; significant other, Connie Neal; cousin and best friend, Joe “Nathy” Bradford. Services: The visitation will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. His funeral service will be there Thursday at 11am, Ray Gene Wilson officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg.
