Jack Sanders, 84, longtime resident of the Middle- town/Honey Creek area, passed away Sunday Jack Sanders, 84, longtime resident of the Middle- town/Honey Creek area, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 28, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Middletown.

Born Sept. 24, 1924, in Muncie, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Janice Dellinger Sanders. He grew up in Honey Creek and was the fifth generation to reside there.

Mr. Sanders received his early education in the Old Honey Creek School and was a 1942 graduate of Middletown High School.

He was an alumnus of Ball State Teachers College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1948 and his Master of Arts degree in 1952.

He was inducted into national honoraries: Phi Gamma Mu (social science), Delta Phi Delta (art) and Kappa Delta Phi (education). As a teacher at Delphi Community Schools he was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa, a national honorary organization.

Mr. Sanders was granted Member Emeritus from Purdue University.

In 1985 he was honored as "Teacher of the Year" in by the Delphi American Legion.

Mr. Sanders began a progressive art show in Delphi with the Tri Kappa Sorority in 1953 to showcase local and national talent. The "Jack Sanders Art Show" is still in existence and became a very respected event in his honor, of which he was most proud.

He was a generous and gentle man, interested in genealogy and reading and was a devoted advocate of the arts. He travelled extensively in his retirement.

Surviving are his beloved cousins, John W. Redding (wife: Wilma), Nancy Ann Redding McWilliams (husband: Gary), Rosemary Redding Adams (husband: Merle), Dale Redding (wife: Margaret), Charles Robert Cheek, Monte Sanders (wife: Jill), William Sanders (wife: Roberta), Marcel Sanders Jr. (wife: Susan) and Floyd Sanders, and each cousin's extended families.

Preceding him in death were baby brothers, Roscoe Jr. and Robert T. Sanders, and a very dear and close cousin, Mary Catherine Cheek Sanders.

I loved Mr Sanders- I can't believe how much I learned from him about art; about colors, shades, perspective...on & on & on!

When I see how little kids are taught about these things anymore, it makes me feel very fortunate to have had him as a teacher.

Rest in peace, Mr Sanders; I'm sure that Heaven has made a very beautiful place for you, and thanks for being such an awesome influence.

Constance Riley (Rodenbarger) (1969)

I enjoyed Mr. Sanders very much. I loved art and he was very patient with us. I remember being in the art show.
