Ettola “Toby” M. Armstrong, 83, of Lafayette passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at IU Health Hospital.

Toby was born July 8, 1940 in Lafayette, IN, to the late Bitler and Ruth Armstrong. She was a graduate of Delphi High School and obtained her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1986.

On December 21, 1960 she married James W. Riley in Yeoman. They later divorced. Toby married Robert Schmitt.

Toby owned and operated Ryland Farm Sales and Service in Brookston for over 17 years. She later worked as a Business Manager for Lahr Ford, Life Specialist for John Deere Life Insurance, Real Estate Broker in Delphi, IN and a Marketing Representative for Sam’s Club. Toby was very active in the community; volunteering at Wabash Erie Canal and the Delphi Opera House Preservation Society. She was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her children: Todd Riley of Parker, AZ; Janell Riley of Parker, Arizona and Tedd Riley of Brookston; three grandchildren: Miles (wife, Courtney) Hodge; Sondra Riley and Nichole Riley; and two great grandchildren.

Toby is preceded in passing by her parents; and sister: Carolyn Armstrong Bunnell and brother Tom Armstrong.
