Dick Cornell

Richard L. "Dick" Cornell, 63, of Delphi, died at 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
  Born in Greencastle on Dec. 17, 1940, he was the son of J.C. and Ruth Alexander Cornell.  He was a 1958 graduate of Delphi High School, and attended Indiana University, and in 1960, he graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science.
  His marriage was to Sue Ann Sieber on June 24, 1962, at Delphi First Presbyterian Church and she survives.
  Mr. Cornell had been a field representative for Federated Funeral Directors of American since 1994.  He served as mayor of Delphi from 1968 to 1972, and was serving his second term as city councilman and his second term on City of Delphi Board of Works and Safety.  He had also served on Carroll County's 911 steering committee.
  He was a member of Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks #66, a member of Delphi First Presbyterian Church, and a past president of Carroll County Country Club.  He was a past president of Delphi Chamber of Commerce and of Dollars for Scholars at Delphi Community High School.
  He worked many years in radio at WASK, Lafayette, and WSAL, Logansport, and was a former owner of Cornell Funeral Home and Cornell Men's Shop.
  Mr. Cornell enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Indiana University basketball and football fan.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
  Visitation will be Feb. 5 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Davison Funeral Home.  Services will be Feb. 6 a 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Kelly Furlong officiating.  Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery.
