Lois Groninger (Powlen) - Class Of 1958

Lois passed away November 11, 2008, after an 8 month battle with pancreatic cancer.  She was full of love, joy and life.  She enjoyed spending time with her family including her 12 grandchildren.  She went back to school as an adult and got her RN degree in nursing from IUK in 1996.  She worked for Arnett Clinic as a float nurse until her illness.  She drew silhouettes, black and white pictures with people's names, for over 30 years and sent them to probably every state.  She also enjoyed being part of the singing duo "Senior Class" with Bob Conner and loved seeing the residents at the various events and nursing homes at which they sang.  Lois was also the organist at the Delphi Presbyterian Church.  She loved her many friends, church family, co-workers, and family.

She grew up in Burrows and had a wonderful childhood growing up around her parents', Charles and Kathalene Groninger, store called Groninger's General Store.  She graduated from Delphi High School in 1958.  She loved school and her classmates and always looked forward to her class reunions.  After her cancer diagnosis, one of her goals was to make it to her 50th class reunion, which she accomplished.

Lois married Jim Powlen in 1962.  They had four children:  Pam Downey (husband Trent) 1982 DCHS grad; Kathy Zink (husband Jon) 1984 Delphi grad; Brad (wife Elyce) 1986 grad; and Craig (wife Jenna) 1988 grad.  She loved and admired her children and they in turn, loved and admired her.  Her 12 grandchildren miss their "Grandma Blue".
