Jim Landis

James A. Landis, 78, Hartford City passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 12:15 p.m. in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Carroll County, IN to Robert M. and Gladys Alford Landis of Delphi, IN.

He married Carolyn A. Thomson of Delphi on August 11, 1962 in Monticello, IN.

Jim was a graduate of Delphi High School in 1958, where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He graduated from Indiana State College in 1962 majoring in Physical Education and Math. He graduated from Ball State University in 1966 where he received a Master's Degree in Counseling. He taught math from 1962-1969 at Hartford City Junior High School where he helped start the Junior High football program. He was Guidance Counselor at Blackford High School from 1969-1998. He loved all of his students and always enjoyed seeing them after they graduated.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sister, Debra (Tom) Guckien, Camden, IN; sisters-in-law Pat (Bill) Calhoun, Jane (Norm) Miller, Beverley (John) Forrest, Betty Landis and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert C. Landis and Russell L. Landis.

Jim was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1962 where he had sung many years in the choir and also served on commissions. He was a former member of the Elks and Kiwanis. He previously served on the Life Stream Board of Directors and was currently serving on the Hartford City Redevelopment Commission as well as many other organizations. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Indiana State and returned yearly to his alma mater for homecoming and to visit with his brothers.

One of his loves was playing golf with the guys almost daily at Blackford Country Club where he was a member since 1964. He also enjoyed hunting with friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 in Grace United Methodist Church, 312 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Ron Branson officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 24 from 3-8 p.m. in the church and one hour before the service on Friday. A Graveside Service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Zion Citizens Cemetery, south of Flora, IN.
