Robert White

Robert “Bob” White, 84, of Delphi, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Bob was born on January 22, 1940, to James E. and Helen Maxine (Hanna) White, in Adams Township, Carroll County.

Bob attended Pittsburg and Delphi High School, graduating in 1958. After graduation, Bob joined the United States Navy and he served on the USS Robert McCord as an electrician, for 4 years until retiring in July of 1962. After retiring from the military, Bob drove a truck for 14 years.

In April of 1966 he married Constance Bailey, and they had 3 daughters together. She preceded Bob in death in March of 1973. On July 19, 1974, he married Marilyn Joan “Jo” (Arterburn Clevenger) White, and she has two children.

In 1976 they started farming together and raising hogs and cattle until eventually retiring in 2006. He also drove a school bus for 36 years for Twin Lakes School Corporation.  Bob was also active in the community and he served on the Carroll County 4-H Board, Farm Bureau Co-op Board, and Adams Township Advisory Board. Bob was active in the American Legion Honor Guard, Post 75.

Bob was known to be a man of few words. He loved watching old westerns, and his little great-grandchildren play. He had a passion for horses and animals. Bob had a horse and donkey named Jack on the farm for the past 29 years.

Bob was baptized in the Rattlesnake Creek as a child, and he was a member of Hickory Grove Church ever since.

Surviving Bob include his wife Jo of 50 years, daughters; Amy L. White-Spitzer of Monticello, Brenda (Sam) S. White-Johns of Delphi, 2 stepchildren; Denise R. Clevenger of Largo, FL, and Brian (Holly) K. Clevenger of Largo, FL. Brother; Ronald (Mickey) White of Frankfort, sisters; Carolyn Pearson of Delphi; sister-in-law; Nancy Monroe, brother-in-law; Danny (Judy) Arterburn, both of Crawfordsville. Grandchildren; T.J. Spitzer, Melanie (Carl) Christiansen, Jacqueline Johns, step-grandchildren; Cassie (Casey) Catterlin, Avenell (Chip) White, Lindsay (Jonathon) Hackworth, Rachel (John) Gilbert, Tawnah (Josh) Folk, Brandon Clevenger, Shelby Clevenger, Dylan (Zach) Caudill, Tabitha (Camille) Balgobin, great-grandchildren; Hoyt Spitzer, Kinley Spitzer, Quinn Christiansen, Tate Christiansen, step-great-grandchildren; Nia Hackworth, Brooklyn Clevenger, Gianna Clevenger, Alexander Gilbert, Nolan Evans, Katelyn Evans, Hunter Evans, Charlotte Catterlin, Evelyn White, and Carter White.

Preceding Bob in death include his sister; Nancy Hicks, daughter; Pamela Jo, and grandson; Nicholas Spitzer.

Friends May visit with the family on Wednesday, September 11, beginning at 4 pm. A funeral service honoring the life of Bob will be held on Thursday September 12, 2024, at 11 am, with pastors Adam Morris and Ken Smith officiating, located at Davidson-Shirey Funeral Home, 121 North Union Street, Delphi. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, where Military rites will be performed.

Memorial contributions honoring the life of Bob may be made to Hickory Grove Cemetery Association, or an organization of your choice.

The White family would like to thank the wonderful hospice nurses Terris and Marissa for their compassionate care.

Don Scott (1958)

Bob and I were close friends in high school and we had some great times.  The last time I saw him was at the funeral home when my mother passed away.  I want to express my condolances to his family.
