John Phillip Beach, 91, of Delphi, died Mon-Jan 29, 2018 at 7:45am at his residence. He was born Oct 2, 1926 in Valentine, IN, to the late Harlow & Mildred Lambright Beach. His marriage was to Betty Marks in LaGrange, IN, on Nov 2 1947, and she preceded him in death on Feb 8, 2007. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1944. He is a WW II Veteran, serving in the 8th Army, serving in the Pacific Theater, Philippian Islands, and Japan, from Feb 7, 1945 to Nov 29, 1946. He then received his BS from Purdue University in Industrial Education 1951, and his MA from Purdue in Industrial Education 1961. He taught for 1 year at Kendallville High School, then accepted the Industrial Arts position at Delphi Community High School, from 1952 until his retirement in 1989. He had a passion for teaching, and he loved his students. He was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church since 1953, and had served as a trustee. He belonged to the IN Retired Teachers Association, was a life member of both the Wabash & Erie Canal, and the Friends of the Delphi Library. He was a woodworking judge for the Carroll County 4-H fair, and had judged woodworking at other surrounding counties. After retirement, he and his wife had the Deer Creek Hollow Woodworking Shop, in the former Delphi Town Square Mall. He volunteered countless hours at the Delphi Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed Purdue University Sports, woodworking, and loved his neighborhood, and many friends. His greatest love was for his family. He dearly loved them all, and especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren's events. Surviving: sons-Terry & Nancy Beach of Delphi, Thomas & Sherry Beach of Wichita, KS, Mike & Denise Beach of Delphi. 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a sister Betty Wright. Services: The family will receive friends from 1pm until his memorial service at 2pm Saturday, at the Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N US 421 Delphi. Rev Todd Ladd officiating, private family interment to follow at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Carroll County Honor Guard providing Military Rites.
