Bill Delaney - Class Of 1959

Charles W. "Bill" Delaney, 57, of Delphi, died at 8:20 a.m. Feb. 23, 1999, in the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
  Born Sept. 5, 1941, in Lafayette, he was the son of Charles W. Delaney Sr. and Gertrude Beutel Delaney.  His marriage was on June 7, 1964 in Pittsburg, to Patsy Harner, who survives.
  He was in the U.S. Air Force for 13 years, retiring as a staff sergeant in 1972.  He returned to Delphi and worked at Brosman's Grocery for several years.  He then worked at The Andersons General Store in Delphi for 10 years, retiring in 1989 due to ill health.  He and his wife owned the former Dog House Restaurant in West Delphi.  Recently, he helped his sons with Delaney Heating and Air Conditioning in Delphi.
  Mr. Delaney was educated in the Delphi Schools graduating in 1959, and was a former ROTC instructor at Purdue.
  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion Post 75, both in Delphi, and a former member of Delphi VFW and Delphi Kiwanis Club.  He formerly served on the board of directors of the Wabash & Erie Canal Association and was a former coach and president (1978-1979) of Delphi Little League.
  He enjoyed fishing and hunting and John Wayne movies, and was an avid Purdue University fan.
  Also surviving are three sons, Jeff Delaney and Scott Delaney, both of Delphi, and Brian Delaney of Indianapolis; his parents, of Delphi; and four brothers, Michael A. Delaney of Joliet, Ill., Patrick A. Delaney of Grand Rapids, Mich., Thomas F. Delaney of Lafayette, and Richard H. Delaney of Elkhart; and four grandchildren.
  Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Horn Funeral Home with Father Peter Vanderkolk officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 7:45 p.m.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
