Gerald Fry - Class Of 1954

Gerald Fry

Gerald E. Fry, 24, of route 3, Delphi, died instantly in a hay baler accident on the Edgar Groninger farm, north of Camden, Thursday night.
Alone in the field, which is across the road from the Fry farm, the young man was making "one last round" before going home when the accident transpired.  It is theorized that the hay became clogged in the automatic device and that when he attempted to get the machine going again his arms were pulled up into the machine to his shoulders.  Death was attributed to "Traumatic Shock".
Coroner Richard Eikenberry investigated and stated that Fray's wife, Donna had gone to the field at 5:30 to talk to her husband and that he said he would make one more round and then be ready to go home.  She left and when he failed to show up at the house at 5:50 she again went to the field and found her husband.  She turned off the power and rushed to a nearby home to get help.  Finding no one at home, she broke a window to gain entrance to use the telephone.  A physician was summoned and pronouned the victim dead.
Born Nov. 12, 1935 in Logansport, he was the son of Roy and Martha Hamilton Fry.  His marriage in 1956 was to Donna Belle Andrews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Andrews of route 1, Idaville.
The young man was a member of the Rockfield Presbyterian church and the Delphi National Guard.
Surviving with the widow are a daughter, Dorina, at home; his parents; the paternal and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fry of route 2, Logansport and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ridenour of route 1, Flora.
Rites were held Sunday from the Rockfield Presbyterian church with Rev. Garth Salmon officiating.  Burial was in the Camden cemetery.  Gentry funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

I didn't know Gerald personally, but he has 1 child who is my sister(stepsister). He left this world all too soon and is greatly missed by his daughter, I'm sure. Dorinda was only 9 months old when her dad left this earth to be with the Lord. His parents, I'm told, his mother grieved for him forever until her death. They also were very good, religious people, and loved their God. His parents have been gone for some time and are very happy now to be with their son now. Rest in peace good family!! until we meet again.
