In Memory

Joyce Sollars - Class Of 1955

Joyce Sollars

Lt. Joyce Montgomery, 25, a registered nurse and a Lieutenant in the Nurse Corps of the Air Force, died Sunday in San Antonio, Texas, apparently of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Miss Montgomery was a niece of Mrs. Charles Kerlin of Delphi.  She had made her home here with the Kerlin Family and was graduated from the Delphi high school in 1955.  She was also a graduate of the St. Elizabeth hospital School of Nursing in Lafayette, joining the Air Force three years ago.  While here, Miss Montgomery went by the name of Joyce Sollars.

Only meager details of the tragedy were learned here.  Relative were informed by Air Force officials that Miss Montgomery was found dead in her garage Sunday.  They were quoted as saying that she evidently died of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Officials said the doors of the garage were closed and locked and the motor of her car in the garage was running.

Her home was at Newport, Indiana, where her mother and step-father reside; also surviving are a brother, Samuel Montgomery, a student at Wabash college; and a sister, Karen Montgomery.  A half-brother also survives.

The body was flown to Indiana and rites will be conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at the Watson funeral home in Cayuga with burial there.

Several from here plan to attend the services.
