Tom Armstrong

Thomas B. "Tom" Armstrong Sr, 85, of rural Delphi, passed away Wednesday-May 3, 2023, at 3:22pm, at his home in La Feria, TX. He was born at his parents' home in Jefferson Township, Carroll County, on May 25, 1937, to the late Bitler & Ruth Armstrong Armstrong. He married Betty Sue Braudaway, at the Elmwood Church of Christ in Lafayette, on January 25, 1959, celebrating 64 years together, and she survives. Tom graduated from Delphi High School in 1955. He began farming in Carroll & White counties, and worked numerous jobs to supplement the farm, including Chrysler in Kokomo, and Alcoa in Lafayette. He drove a school bus for Twin Lakes School Corporation for many years, and a semi hauling bulk fuel to service stations for Standard Oil near Brookston, and later for Diamond Shamrock in Harlingen, TX. Plus, many other jobs too numerous to mention. A very hardworking man. He and Sue began wintering in the Rio Grande Valley in 1979. He was drawn there by the agriculture, and working on a citrus survey, for the USDA, to car shuttles for National Car rental. He loved to travel and visited all the States, Mexico, Canada, Alaska, & Europe. He was a 50-year member of the Mount Zion Masonic Lodge #211 in Camden, 32nd Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, & The Order of the Eastern Star. He and his wife attended the Hickory Grove Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Indiana National Guard and the Reserves for many years. He and his son decorated the graves of his fellow Veterans at a local cemetery close to their home for many years. While wintering in TX, his fellow Shriners would collect donations at the boarder to help children from Mexico, get the medical services they needed in surrounding TX hospital's. Tom dearly loved his wife & son, and extended family. Being together brought him great joy, he dearly loved them all. Surviving: wife-Betty Sue Armstrong of Delphi, son-Thomas B. "Tommy" Armstrong ll of Delphi, sister-Carol Faye Armstrong of West Lafayette, sister-Ettola "Toby" Armstrong of Lafayette, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, great nieces & nephews survive. Preceded in death by a sister Carolyn K. Bunnell. Services: Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 7:30pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. His funeral service will be Saturday at 11am at the funeral home, Pastor Eric Riddle officiating. Burial will be at Yeoman Cemetery, with Carroll County Honor Guard presenting Military Honor's. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Carroll County Cancer Association, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
