Tom Brooks

Thomas Eugene Brooks, 78, of Bringhurst, died Sat.-Apr. 19, 2014 at 6:58pm at IU Health Arnett Hospital-Laf. He was born Dec. 29, 1935 in Delphi, to the late Dana & Doris Britton Brooks. His marriage was to Judith Kay Bowman in Delphi, on June 28, 1959, and she survives. He was a 1955 graduate of Delphi High School, and U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 5-15-1956/5-31-1962. He started working at Zinn Kitchens-Flora, in 1963, and was a sales manager there, retiring in 1997. Then, he and his wife moved to Clearwater, FL, from 1997, until moving back to Bringhurst in 2011. He was a member of the Flora United Methodist Church. He was a former Mason, and belonged to the Flora Lions Club. He was a member of the Delphi American Legion Post 75, Delphi VFW Post 9383, and the Dunedin, FL, American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work, and any outdoor activity. He loved cars, especially his Corvette. Tom liked to help people, whatever the need, quietly and unassuming, behind the scenes. He dearly loved his entire family, and the many gatherings they had together. Surviving: daughters-Vicki & Kevin Hinkle of Kokomo, Michelle & Greg Barnes of Flora; son-Steve & Misty Brooks of Flora; sister-Norma Campbell of Franklin, TN; brother-Mike & Vicky Brooks of Soquel, CA; grandchildren: Cody & Samantha, Chaseton, and Caylin Hinkle; Joshua, Paige, and Kinsey Barnes; Alexsis, Addison, and Kaia Brooks; great grandchildren: Colton Hinkle, Kinley Brooks. Nieces and nephews. Preceded by a sister Shirley, brother Buck. Services: Friends may call Wednesday 4-8pm at Baker-Abbott Funeral Home, Flora. Funeral service there Thursday 1pm, Rev. Larry DeVos officiating, burial at Ball Hill Cemetery, Cutler. Military rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
