Alfred Nelson

Alfred Edward "Ed" Nelson, 78, of Mulberry, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on November 22, 1938 in Lafayette, IN, the son of the late Clyde Edward and Sara Pauline (Wolfe) Nelson. On June 3, 1959 in Mississippi he married Mary Lando Nickoles whom survives him.

Ed retired from GTE as a Tech repairman after 29 years. He was a member of the N.R.A. and the Wildcat Valley Rifle and Pistol Club. Lifetime hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed restoring old cars and driving them. Ed loved spending time with family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 58 years, sons; Mark Edward Nelson (Bridget Gregory),Norman Edward Nelson, daughter; Tina Lynn Maxfield, 6 grandchildren; Nikki (Nick) Oertel, Eric (Jessica) Nelson, Chelsea Nelson, Macy Maxfield, Josh Nelson and Jake (Alaina) Nelson, 8 great-grandchildren; Jocelyn, Reid, Keegan, Lane, Maverick, Hunter, Kayde and Marlee, brother; Ronald Arvin Nelson, sister;Nancy Eilene (Bill) Volmer.

Preceded in death by parents and infant sister; Betty Louise Nelson.

A gathering of family and friend will be on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel. A Celebration of life service will be at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be later at Battleground Cemetery.
