Jerry Wayne Wagner, 84, of Delphi, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.  Jerry was born in Lafayette on October 17,1939 to the late Ralph and Hilda (Fisher) Wagner.  Jerry graduated from Delphi High School in 1957 where he was a standout athlete in basketball, football, and track.  Jerry then went on to study and play football at Indiana State University.

Jerry was a local businessman who owned Bassett & Talbert Firestone in Delphi and served the needs of the greater Delphi community as a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge and an active member of the Delphi Lions Club. 

Jerry’s kids and grandkids shared his love of athletic competition.  You could always find Jerry in the bleachers cheering for his kids and grandkids.  Jerry was also an avid fisherman and loved spending time walleye fishing with his family on Lake Vermilion.  He spent hours driving the boat and providing fishing tips to his kids and grandkids.

Surviving Jerry include his wife; Carolyn Wagner, daughter; Tammy (John) Toleno, sons; Joel (Terri) Wagner, Kyle (Suzanne) Wagner, granddaughters; Lauren (Robert) Van Thiel, Caitlyn (Chris) Toleno, Megan Wagner, Madison Wagner, and Hayley Wagner, grandsons; Parker (Rebecca) Munson, Christopher (Emma) Toleno, Jordan (Caitlyn) Wagner, Peyton (Ashley) Wagner, Garret Wagner, great granddaughter; Ella Van Thiel, great grandsons; Hudson Wagner, Hendrix Wagner, and River, brother, Tom (Martha) Wagner.

 Jerry was preceded in death by his son; Jeff Wagner, grandson; Justin Wagner and sister; Pat (Mick) Merrell.

A funeral service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at 12:00 pm, on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Davidson-Shirey Funeral Home located at 121 N. Union Street, Delphi, with Pastor Dan Gottschalk officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Masonic cemetery in Delphi. Memorial contributions in Jerry’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
