Ronald D. Caldwell, born to Daniel and Frances Caldwell of Logansport, IN, May 27, 1939, passed away May 30, 2015. Ron’s lifelong passion was music—specifically Jazz. As a child he could hardly wait to get home from school to practice his tenor sax. After graduating from Delphi High School, he enlisted in the Navy, joined the Navy Band, and for four years enjoyed their entertainment schedule. After the Navy, he played professionally with bands in Chicago, IL, Milwaukie, and Green Bay, WI, and was occasionally invited to play with visiting Big Bands.
In 1966, Ron hired on at Delco Electronics where he met and married Margaret Schorm in 1981. At Delco, he rose to management level in Systems Quality Engineering, the position from which he retired in 1998.
Once retired, he became a skillful woodworker. He built such beautiful furniture he couldn’t keep up with his family’s special requests. Among his treasured moments were days spent working in his home/shop, listening to his favorite Jazz artists’ recordings.
Ron is survived by his wife, Margaret; his brother, Gary Caldwell and his family; his children, Debra (Caldwell) and husband, Steve Eytchison; Leanne (Caldwell) and husband, Jerry Renato; Julanne (Caldwell) and husband, Bill Andreorio; Brad Caldwell and wife, Dana; his stepchildren, Fred and Amy (Arnett) Schorm and Sabrina Schorm, and his many beloved grandchildren.
Ron’s quick smile and hearty, infectious laugh will be remembered—and sorely missed—by everyone who knew and loved him.
