Rita Medley (Hodges)

Rita Sue Hodges, 87, of Panama City, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 2, 2026.

She was born on August 2, 1939, and lived a life filled with love, faith, and cherished memories. Rita’s presence touched the lives of those around her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her as they celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind.

Rita grew up in Delphi, Indiana, with her parents and her brother, Gary "Butch" Medley. It was there, while attending Delphi High School, that she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Bob Hodges. Shortly after graduating, the two were married, and Rita began a new chapter of life alongside Bob as they traveled with the U.S. Air Force.

Among Rita's favorite memories were the years their family was stationed in Germany, where she and Bob embraced the opportunity to travel throughout Europe with their five children. Those adventures remained some of the most cherished times of her life.

Rita was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Nothing brought her more joy than seeing one of her children or grandchildren walk through the door for a visit. She had a vibrant personality and was often the life of the party, bringing laughter and warmth wherever she went. Those who knew and loved her will forever treasure her famous "Grandma Stories," which were always filled with humor and love.

Rita was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Red Hat Society, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her kindness, joyful spirit, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, James Robert “Bob” Hodges; her son, Robert K. Hodges; her brother, Gary R. Medley; son-in-law, Barry P. Allen; grandson, Cody W. White; and great-granddaughter, Carrissa L. Ekstrom.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Terri L. Chancey, Lisa K. Gebhardt (David), Tracy L. Allen, and Melissa A. Jacobs (Joseph); and her daughter-in-law, Michele L. Hodges.

She also leaves behind a loving legacy through her grandchildren: Tiffany A. Massey (Stephen), Kendra L. Bruner, Kaliko J. Chancey, Jennifer L. Mellinger (Phil), Aaron D. Gebhardt, Amber N. Hodges (T.J.), Robert K. Hodges, Jr. (Tamra), Ian P. Allen (Ashlyn), Zachary R. Allen, Evan J. Allen, Ashleigh N. Brand (Jessie), Joshua J. Brand (Lauren), and Hallie Barrett.

Her memory will continue to be treasured by her 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who were blessed to know her love, kindness, and devotion.
