Donald Eugene Goyer, 84, of Delphi, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026. He was born on December 21, 1941 in Logansport, Indiana to the late Harold S and Florence Arlene (Bowman) Goyer.
Don was a graduate of Delphi Community High School, and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Haynsworth and visiting 16 foreign countries. He proudly served his country, met many great men and learned skills that he used to build a career. Soon after, he married Shirley Bell Best on December 12, 1964 at Delphi United Methodist Church, and she survives.
Don was a machinist, working at Fairfield Manufacturing for 28 years and then Chrysler Corporation for 10 years before retiring in 2007. Don was a member of the Delphi Methodist Church, IOOF Lodge #28, Delphi Lions Club and volunteered at the Wabash & Erie Canal Park. He coached Little League Baseball for 8 years at Paul Goyer Field, which he helped build as a young kid.
Don enjoyed time with his family and his buddies. He loved to play games---especially euchre, poker and pool---and you could find him at the Union Hall every Tuesday and at the Odd Fellows every Monday. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, Don is survived by his children, Gregory Scott Goyer, Christina Lynn (T. Blane) McMichen, Jennifer Dell (Mark) Flinchum, and Cynthia Marie “Cindy” Goyer; brother, James L. (Mary) Goyer; grandchildren, Ross W. (Kagan) Bachman, John Thomas “Tommy” McMichen, Julie A. McMichen, Charles M. Carter, and William S. “Liam” Huss; great-grandchildren, Lucy M., Madeline R., Theodore M. and Olive R. Bachman.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Katrina M. “Katie” Bachman.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Wabash and Erie Canal, 1030 N. Washington Street, Delphi, Indiana 46923. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Todd Ladd of Delphi Methodist Church. Private burial will be held at a later date. When we moved back to Lafayettte in 2013 , Don was our first classmate we ran into. you guess it , Sam's Club . He welcomed us back home . Now he and Margaret can share stories of Delphi High School.
