JANICE K. SLAVENS, 74, of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. Born Oct. 19, 1942, she was the daughter of Everett and Lorene (Sheets) Rider. On May 27, 1960, she married Dean Slavens. In 2007, she retired from Homestead High School. Survivors include her husband, Dean Slavens; daughters, Tammy (Bill Glover) Runyan of Venice, Fla. and Sonya (Brian) Emerick of Columbia City; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and an extension of many track and cross country athletic family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Joanne Treece and Phyllis "Jean" Jennings. Memorial service is 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Emmanuel Community Church, 12222 W. Jefferson Blvd. (US 24), Fort Wayne, with Pastor Bob Bruce officiating. Memorial visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at the church.
