Susan Sage (Fagan) - Class Of 1960

Susan Sage (Fagan)

Mrs. Susan N. Fagan, 27, of Rt. 3, Lafayette, drowned Wednesday afternoon of last week while attempting to rescue her five-year-old son from the Tippecanoe River about three miles south of Springboro, at a point where Tippecanoe, Carroll and White counties converge.
She had been carrying her son, David, on her shoulders when tragedy struck.  Mrs. Fagan reportedly was a good swimmer, but was not wearing a flotation device.
Dr. T. Neal Petry was in his nearby cottage when he heard screams and went to the scene.  The little boy could not swim but stayed afloat by splashing and kicking until the physician rescued him.  Dr. Petry also found Mrs. Fagan, got her to shore, and tried to revive her for 30 minutes by applying artificial respiration.
Mrs. Fagan was a 1960 graduate of Delphi High School and a member of the First Christian Church of Lafayette where she was a Sunday School teacher.  She was a Girl Scout Brownie Leader.
She was the daughter of Lewis and Catherine Sage and was married in 1961 to Dennis L. Fagan.
Surviving with the husband are a daughter and two sons, all at home; her mother and a brother, Rex Sage, both of Lafayette; and two sisters, Mrs. James Carroll of Logansport and Sally Sage, at home; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Roy Sage of Marion.
Final rites were Saturday afternoon at Lafayette and interment was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.,
Mrs. Fagan formerly lived at Yeoman where she was married.
