Dorothy Soper (Whiteman)

Dorothy J. Soper Whiteman, 80, of Americus, passed away unexpectedly Thursday-February 9, 2023, at 4:47pm, at IU Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. She was born December 3, 1942, in Albion, MI, to the late Floyd S. Modjeska, and her mother Leona M. Humphrey Modjeska Soper. Her marriage was to Ronald J. "Red" Whiteman in Delphi, on August 13, 1964, and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2022. She was a 1960 graduate of Delphi High School. She worked at the former Peters-Revington Furniture Factory in Delphi, former McGill Corp in Monticello, and was a cook at Delphi Community Elementary School for several years. Dorothy's father passed away at an early age, and her mother married AJ Soper, whom she was very close to. Dorothy belonged to the Delphi United Methodist Church, and then to the Yeoman United Methodist Church. She enjoyed trap shooting with her husband, loved crafts and making all kinds of things, especially cards for her family, and scrapbooking. She and her husband wintered in Belleview, FL, for 23 years. Dorothy loved to hang out with her closest friends, and enjoyed being outside, and working around her yard. Dorothy loved her French Bulldog Tinker. Her greatest love was for her family and grand & great grandchildren. She loved being around them all for any occasion. That was her life. Surviving: daughter-Becky & Greg Baxter of Delphi, son-Brian & Sherri Whiteman of Lafayette, grandchildren: Sydney & Brandon Farrar, Morgan & Tyson Ovalle, Brett Whiteman, Kameron Baxter, Jenise & Ethan Brooke, Brandi & Anthony Arnett, Kaiden Baxter, & Koby Baxter. 10 great grandchildren survive. Brother-Tom Soper of West Lafayette, sister-Pat Brinkman of Homosassa, FL, sister-Judy Shaffer of Littleton. Preceded in death by 1 brother Steven Modjeska, a sister Jeri Wilson. There will be no service at this time. A graveside service will be announced at a later date, to inter She and Red's ashes at Yeoman Cemetery.
